Mama Gee's Takeout Restaurant: Authentic Ghanaian Cuisine in Charlotte, NC

I've visited Mama Gee's multiple times during their normal business hours, finally got around to trying "Mama Gee's at Night" and not shockingly, I was a fan! Mama Gee's is one of those hidden gem type of restaurants, especially if you like West African food. The food is flavorful, you get a respectable portion and the young owner is so so good about his interactions with his customers, you can tell he really appreciates your business and is passionate about what he does. Mama Gee's is the kind of small business I want (and will!) continue to support. So glad to have them around because honestly the food scene in Charlotte is kind of lacking, especially small businesses, Mama Gee's delivers :) Pictured is jollof rice, suya tacos and suya wings. All were very good!

The food is excellent. It reminds me of my mom’s home cooking. Really authentic Ghanaian food. Really nicely spiced flavor, just like home. It’s been awhile since I had really good home food. Really love the place. I wish they had a place to sit in the restaurant. Great food.

Mama Gee’s is such a great spot to get West African/Ghanian food! I’ve been coming here for about 7 years now and always look forward to it. Kobbi and the team offer great service and mouthwatering food! 10/10 would recommend!

If a Haitian approve other nation’s food, that’s mean the food taste really good. That’s my first time having west african food. The jollof rice is tasty, with the sauce (mild) its perfect. The price vs what you get is so reasonable. I recommand this place. Can’t wait to try other recipes.

It was my first time there and first time eating Ghanaian food. The guys working the counter were helpful very sweet, and patient. I'm Puerto Rican and eating this food reminded me of some of the foods we eat ( which btw are AFRICAN ROOTS- DUHHH LOL) . I felt a deep connection to those roots eating the food. I came all the way from Indian Land to try the food and I WILL BE BACK AGAIN.

This was my first time trying Mama Gees. The young man at the counter was super nice and helpful with deciding what to order. I ordered the Jallof Rice w Chicken. The plate came with plantains and a cup of sauce for the rice. Oh my goodness. It was so good. That chicken....the flavor.....He told rice had a spiciness to it. It did, but not too much. The plantains were good. I love the Ginger Beer. It has some 'kick'. I will definitely be ordering again. (Sorry, forgot to take pics). The second time, I ordered 'Dirty Chicken' w Jallof Rice and Plantains. It was delicious. The spice level was not bad. I tried the Donuts and, of course, the Ginger Beer. I enjoyed everything.

Was craving GHANIAN jollof (because each country makes it different) so I went to mama gees and I was not disappointed! Took about 20mins after placing the order. I got a large portion of rice that could feed two people. The chicken combo comes with two drumsticks and the meat combo comes with two pieces of meat so don’t be surprised. Also plantains is included. It tasted just like I imagined but I do wish it was spicier. All in all I’m happy and will return on the weekend to try other dishes.

I always get the same thing every time I go-jollof rice, chicken, and plantains and it does not disappoint. Flavors are on point, the sauce is good (I wish they gave more of it with the dish), and the portions are right! It's a takeout joint, so nothing much to say about the atmosphere. They usually have good music playing and the guy who works the register is always nice. If you have never had West African food, I recommend it!
